Gratitude for Community Support

On behalf of the Calipatria Niland Family Resource Center,
Thank you to all the agencies, sponsors, FFA and community volunteers, district staff, school sites administrators and staff, maintenance and cafeteria staff, ASES staff, A Team, Calipatria Police & Fire, Red Cross, CHP,  Public Health Department, PMH, ECRMC, Clinica, Cal Energy,  Calipatria Lions, Calipatria Chamber of Commerce, Go Human Campaign, First 5, Gina Young, Donut Ave,  Golden State Water,  and to the too many to list agencies & sponsors. Thanks to everyone that participated in the events held in October to bring the much needed services to our students and their families. We gave out 30 bikes, many were accompanied by helmets to promote walking & biking more.  A special thanks to Biomat Calexico they donated 5 bikes for each event for a total of 15 bikes. The IC Sheriff took a list and will bring helmets to all the Grace Smith kids that said they need a helmet.

Brand new for our students and their families this year, we held the Walk to School events in Calipatria and Niland on October 2-3, 2019 bright and early in the morning. It was a great success with many students and parents participating. Kids engaged in activities with officers from the Calipatria Police &  Fire Department, IC Sheriff Office, California Highway Patrol and Sparky the dog! About 10 agencies came out and offered outreach information and services. We had breakfast snacks and juices. The Public Health Department provided the helmet safety demonstration and the fire department trained kids on the quick bike ABC's and the Calipatria officers registered bikes.

The kids interacted in the rally which focused on walking and biking more for healthy living, help reduce traffic congestion and improve the environment. They chanted "walk to school' and if you ride your bike "wear a helmet". We gave away 10 bikes at each event and finalized with a walk demonstration. There was a makeshift bicycle lane using red cones. It was an educational, fun and rewarding experience. We will conduct a Bike to School Event May 6-7, 2020. Working with City, Caltrans and IC Transportation to install Calipatria & Niland pedestrian & bike lanes....coming soon!

Yesterday, we held the 2nd Annual Safety & Wellness Fair with a huge participation from parents and students, over 50 agencies participated and offered a wide variety of outreach informational booths, glucose and blood pressure screenings, dental oral health & toothbrush giveaway, lead information, asthma education, behavioral health, social services & workforce development, the IC Agriculture Commissioner's had a display of insects, plant & flower seeds,  Lambs Van had a book giveaway, Food Bank-Farmers Market and much more! Many agencies did activities with the kids. The CUSD Attendance "A" Team had a table with attendance information & giveaways. We hosted a partner agency networking luncheon that allows for sharing resources and information.
The event also offered corn dogs, cotton candy, punch & water.

There were large public safety vehicles that allowed students to look inside and officers gave talk about how to become fire volunteers or become officers. They gave away badges and helmets. We had a parent raffle, backpack giveaway and 20 bikes giveaway! The Calipatria Police and Fire Department helped with all the raffles and toss giveaway of items. Sparky made an appearance. The kids loved it! Overall, it was bigger and better than last year's event. It had the feel of a festival.

Photo collage in the making...

The events were a great success and could not be made possible without all your help!

Thanks a million!
